Teaching Philosophy:When asked what a teacher is I commonly think of a leader, a
role model, and somebody who works well with other people and has a passion for
what they do. Growing up I always looked up to a lot of my teachers and the
one’s that I gravitated towards were always physical educators. Physical
educators have the opportunity to teach students something that can save their
lives, and inspire a life change as well. The problem is not many do, when I
was thinking about my future profession I couldn’t help but think I can make a
change and reach students and potentially have a great impact on their life.
That theory, with my competitive nature and finally mixed with a love for
children is the result of me wanting to be a physical educator. I am very
dedicated to everything I set my heart on doing, and the goal is not just to
teach but become an effective teacher. Being effective is being able to reach a
student in multiple different ways until they comprehend what the teacher is
saying. Many times teachers are set in their own ways and can only teach one
style, this is ineffective because not every student learns the exact same way.
Also being a good communicator makes an effective teacher, teaching can be
frustrating many times but being able to slow down and re-explain the task can
be extremely effective as well. And finally somebody is willing to help is
effective, teachers to often hear the end of the day school bell and run for
their cars. The teacher that stays after and is determined to help students
whether it be in a class, in a team sport, or in life is one that is effective.
The teaching style I commonly use is Practice, I like to demonstrate a skill and let my students go practice on their own or with a partner. This gives them time to get a lot of repetitions in and it gives me time to walk around and make sure that everyone is doing the skill properly. I also like to use guided discovery, this is a method that is not used enough and helps the class grow. Guided discovery is great for problem solving and building togetherness two things that every class should have. This not only helps to build students physically but mentally and affectively as well. The thing that is most important to me is making sure that I represent the “new era” of physical education. I want to preach about lifetime fitness and get away from team sports. America has an obesity epidemic going on and I believe it is because people do not know how to move after gaining weight. An overweight fifty-year-old man will most likely not be playing basketball this is why we should be teaching our young students ways to move forever. Also I enjoy incorporating technology into my lessons whether it is as simple as pedometers or complex like the “Idance”. Students love technology so why should we fight it, instead we should embrace and get kids off of the couch.
My classes will be very up beat and I want kids to be excited about coming to “Mr. Einbinder’s” class everyday. Too maintain this spirit I will make my discipline plan firm to be sure that there is no bullying or horse play in the class. To maintain this I will always have my back to the wall and eyes on the class. Also having posters on the walls that are positive and keep everyone excited about the best subject of the day. My class is not a time to come hang out, and disrespect people. The purpose of physical education is to learn and better yourself just like a student would in any other class. Physical education is a class that teaches students skills for their whole lives, as well as social skills it is the ultimate class! When a student leaves my class I want them to be proud of what they for that but most importantly feel like they accomplished something for that day. My students should respect me but know that if they ever need anything I am there for them.
Coaching Philosophy:
When thinking about my life to this point, my greatest memories and achievements all have to do with sports and athletics. Sports have always been a large part of my life, growing up my dad was constantly active with me and it rubbed off to the point where I can’t stop playing. My goal in life is to have as many people as I can have the same experience that I have had. The best way I can pass that on is by coaching and spreading my knowledge and attitude. Ever since I can remember I looked at all of my coaches and used to think about their good qualities and their ugly qualities as well. The ugly qualities I have seen have taught me the most about what I do not want to be like. Kids being screamed at, never given a chance, and a lack of love for what they are doing all stick out in my mind the most. I have also been benched and at what I thought was the lowest possible point, having felt this makes me a better coach. I realized that winning is extremely important but losing is just as important. As a coach I would constantly remind my athletes about resilience, being able to bounce back and fight to overcome difficulties. Also being mentally tough is extremely important, not just in sports but life. If my athletes can be mentally tough they can exceed at anything they want, it’s the will inside that pushes the person. Amongst all the concept of team is something that is extremely important, a team is a family and should be able to go through anything together.
Writing about coaching gives me goose bumps, the possibility of guiding a group of young athletes to accomplish something great is the greatest feeling that anyone can have. I intend on doing exactly that, by being open and dedicated to the team. My hours are the hours that athletes are willing to put in and the harder they work the harder I work.
