Element 6.4
Communicate in ways that convey respect and sensitivity
Artifact: Letter To Parent/ Guardian
Date: Fall 2012 In Adapted physical education I was placed with a great young student with Severely Emotionally Disturbed. We worked together every Monday for one hour and the goal was to learn how to do the front crawl for one lap without stopping. We worked towards this goal with different games and activities throughout the semester. At the end of the semester I wrote a letter, seen on the right, home to his parent/guardian informing them about everything we have done throughout the semester. This project is great because it is the first chance we have to interact with parents of students. This allowed me to communicate with parents and made me think about what to write. Communicating with parents can be tough because I wanted to get my point across but make sure I use the right words as well. Also the letter must be perfect because I am the one teaching their son. No parent wants to see spelling errors and grammar mistakes from an educator. This letter also shows sensitivity towards the subject matter and how thankful I am to have gotten the opportunity to work with their student. |
